Initial of all, depending on the age & sex of the Netherland Dwarfs depends on putting them both in the same cage together. Two does will fight, two bucks will fight, & if passed 6 months of age & if buck and doe they will breed. Child rabbits opens up a entire nother vault. Now, You will about a four by 3 foot cage, with modest wire, water bowl, and feeder. They will need to be tattooed as effectively. If you want infant rabbits, you will need to know rabbits are the worst mothers. four weeks to have babies, 6 weeks just before they can be taken off her. Take the buck out of the cage with her otherwise he will consume the babies. Give her a nest box with hay or straw and she will do the rest. Also, by no means place a rabbit in the sun & unless of course you have rabbits purely from City Individual backgrounds, leave the damn point outside in teh winter. They like cold much greater than hot.

Question by Dolfin1314: How to build a cheap rabbit hutch/run?
So I am thinking of getting a pair of bunnies. However I am trying to figure out where I would keep them. I would like to build a hutch that attaches to an area in the grass. Like a little fenced in area. I have been looking at prices for the wood and wire/fencing. The wood isn’t that much but I was shocked at the price of the chicken wire. Does anyone know of any cheaper material that would serve the same purpose? It needs to be at least 4 feet high. I can’t spend that much money. Any other tips for building an outside rabbit house? Thank you so much!!!!!!!!

Want my bunny? lol just kidding.:) But spend the money and get the chicken wire. It’s really only the safest type of fencing to use, and you want safe stuff with too little vulnerable buns. The chicken wire keeps out predators and keeps the bunnies from escaping. But when building make sure to include both the open area on the grass, and an inclosed box-like area of wood. Completely cover the top of the hutch with lumber/plywood. Rabbits hate the sun and quickly overheat. So make sure there is both a really cool area for them to relax in the summer, and a really inclosed box area for when its cold out and they can snuggle up. But basically what we did to make our was this:
four wood posts in the ground. Wrap the chicken wire around the posts creating a rectangle. Bolt plywood onto the top. (a corner bolted down to each post so the top is all covered). Then we also staked in pieces of wood around the outside out the wire so just in-case the bunny digs they can’t dig under the fence. You could also just sink the wire a couple inches into the ground though. But then we made a rectangular hole in the side big enough for use to crawl in and out. And we just put a little dog igloo inside of the cage with hay so they can go there for warmth. Then we painted the wood to make it pretty. Good luck! It sounds ugly but it comes out ok and suits it purpose. Just check out google for design plans too. Have funn with your bunnies! Sorry I typed SOOO much! yikes!

Outside rabbits hutches are usually inexpensive and unproblematic to erect. It is quite simple to make one in a day or less and your labors can save you a lot of cash over purchasing one. Moreover, you can make it to your own dimensions. A good number of bunny hutches that are available to buy are rather small, but by creating one yourself you can supply extra room to your rabbits that they will appreciate.

Before starting the actual construction on your brand new bunny hutch there are some key things that need to be carefully considered. A few of might seem too apparent to mention, but a lot of inexperienced builders will be naive when it comes to manufacturing a rabbit hutch.

Mistake #1: Not Building With Appropriate Materials

Outside Rabbits hutches are typically made from a combination of metal, wood, and an all-wire mesh. Most commonly, three walls and the covering (roof) are made using lumber while the last side and the flooring are made with an all-wire mesh. Using metal for the sides is preferred since it will not decay and will be much easier to keep clean. When rabbits urinate, it can saturate the wood, creating an unpleasant odor that won’t occur with metal hutches.

Do not use particle board to save some money because it will decay and distort in wet surroundings. High quality outdoor plywood is the correct material to make the roof and sides with, and correctly treating the lumber will increase its life. Nevertheless, do not treat lumber that the bunny can gnaw on because it can hurt them.

A floor made from wood is certainly not satisfactory. The floors must be made with an all-wire mesh that will allow droppings to fall to the ground. If droppings are not permitted to plunge beneath the flooring they can build up within the cage and be the cause of filth and sickly rabbits.

Mistake #2: Not Giving the Animals an Adequate Amount of Area

Bunnies will ideally be offered a chance to work out or exercise for roughly 4 hours each day. Bunnies that get plenty of daily exercise are happier, healthier, have longer life spans, and are more productive if kept for meat. For this reason they need to be given some additional room in their cage. Providing additional room to jump around in will be greatly cherished.

Creating their hutch two levels high will provide the additional room they need for exercising. Both levels can be accessed by way of a wire ramp that allows the bunny to move up or down as desired. This will boost the size of their living space while not taking up any more square footage in the backyard.

Mistake #3: Creating Too Few Solid Walls

Bunnies need sunlight and fresh air, but too much direct sun can cause harm or death. Rabbits hutches having only 1 plywood wall will subject your animal to potentially dangerous climate conditions. Intense winds, rain, and snow can be kept out of the hutch with 3 solid sides and a solid covering (roof).

In addition, rabbits can’t endure hot weather and need a shady place to escape from the harsh sun. By positioning the hutch well and manufacturing it with an adequate number of protective sides, the bunny can remain reasonably untouched by the weather.

Mistake #4: Not Erecting Bunny Hutch on 4 Legs

All outdoor rabbits hutches need to be set on top of 4 legs. Placing a cage directly on the dirt will produce damp and unclean conditions to happen within the cage which will result in health problems. Moreover, lacking support legs the rabbit droppings cannot plunge through the wire flooring, will soon lead to a waste buildup inside the cage.
