Question by TheSystem64: How several seconds will turtle have run when rabbit catches up?
Turtle runs at 55 feet per second. Rabbit runs at 80 feet per second, but gives turtle a 5 second head start off.

so, at the starting the turtle runs 5 seconds at a speed of 55 feet per second, that’s 275ft…. I dare hope you don’t need me to explain this a single…

So the equation describing the position of a particular animal is

p=vt+d

p is the distance from starting point, v is speed t is time in seconds and d is the starting distance

turtle: p=55t+275
rabbit: p=80t

so given that p on each equation are equal when they meet, we have

55t+275=80t

275=80t-55t

275=25t

275/25=25t/25

t=11

So they meet following 11 seconds for the rabbit or 16 seconds for the turtle since it started five seconds ahead.
